‘There are no lost women, only women who’ve forgotten their scripts.’ In 1943, Dorothy Arzner, one of Hollywood’s few women directors, walked off the set of an unfinished film. She never returned. Based on a true story, this play explores Arzner’s complicated relationship with Golden Era studio politics, her openly lesbian lifestyle and how the two worlds may have collided in her art.

More than an insightful look at the gender politics behind the cameras of cinema’s golden age, Camera, Woman asks us to consider how we remember our icons, and at whose expense? Can Arzner ever be remembered as a director first, and a lesbian second?

Unfortunately still relevant. In 1996, Eve Ensler created The Vagina Monologues, a massive worldwide hit that won widespread audience and critical acclaim and became the theatrical poster-child for women empowerment. When women gathered to chant the ‘C’ word, or considered what their vaginas might wear or say, this small dramatic step became a giant leap for all womankind… or so we thought.

In 2007, Lindsay Burns created The Vajayjay Monologues, a well-received one-woman satire that won some coverage in FFWD Weekly, eked out a spot at the New York Fringe, and poked fun at Paris Hilton before her life-changing experience in jail. As UBRAN CURVZ sold out house after house, hundreds of women were revolutionizing their language choices… weren’t they?

In 2010, playwright/performer Lindsay Burns will dust off her indignance and dare to ask: Is any of this making a difference? A remix, revolt and homage – The VAJAYJAY MONOLOGUES is BUSH UNPLUGGED!

“This play is the oddest and most outstanding balance of honest appreciation and legitimate questioning I’ve ever seen.” – Ross Chappell nytheatre.com

“This is a mature, skillful piece of theatre and should entertain both men and women, as well as challenging their ideas about womanhood in a changing world.” -Leila Marston winnipegonstage.com
