The Riveter Series

Mandate:

The mandate of The Riveter Series is to provide support for female artists engaged in creating brave new work. The series strives to offer emerging female theatre practitioners opportunities to showcase their work and to supply the mentorship and development that is required to bring commanding and arresting female voices to the forefront of Canadian culture.

The 2012/2013 Riveter Series will include a staged reading of Exia by Meg Braem (presented in Partnership with APN), Girls Gone Wilde, a late-night cabaret of new 10-minute pieces, and a Text Analysis Masterclass with Canadian Director Micheline Chevrier.

Background of the Riveter Series

With our regrets, the Featured Artist Presentation for the 2012-2013 season (The Disembodied Lady by Leda Davies) has ben cancelled. We apologize for any disappointment and we look forward to hosting this program in the future.

Cabaret:

Girls Gone Wilde: A Late Night Cabaret
May 3&4 2013 @ 9:30pm – Lunchbox Theatre

A study conducted in 2006 on The Status of Women in Canadian Theatre estimated that while 59% of Canada’s theatre-going audience is female, only 27% of the plays produced in Canada are written by female playwrights. Inspired by Femfest (produced by Sarasvati Theatre in Winnipeg) and The Groundswell Festival (produced by Nightwood Theatre in Toronto), this event will feature sizzling staged readings to light up the Calgary stage across two nights. In a country where more and more brilliant female writers are born and made, Girls Gone Wilde will bring these commanding and arresting voices to the forefront of Canadian culture!

Staged Reading – In Partnership with APN:

Exia by Meg Braem
May 4 2013 @ 3:30pm – Lunchbox Theatre

Exia-from the word Orexia, the Greek word for appetite, is a story about the human hunger for blood, revenge, food, sex and love. Using the texts of Aeschylus’ The Oresteia and Sophocles’ Electra as a jumping off point, this is the untold story of Chrysothemis, the lost daughter in the house of Atreus.

Masterclass:

Equipped to Direct with Micheline Chevrier
February 21-23, 2013

From the first read to opening night, Canadian director Micheline Chevrier, will guide participants through a 3-day active learning masterclass on the key steps a director must take to prepare for a successful rehearsal process. Make choices that will guide you towards a strongly unified production but will still leave you open to adapt to discoveries made during rehearsal. Learn different approaches to use in rehearsal and discuss the multiple relationships you will build leading up to tech week.
